Care & Maintenance guide
Natural Stone Characteristics
Natural stone is formed by nature, making every piece unique.
Variations in colour, veining, mineral deposits, pores, texture and natural markings are expected characteristics of genuine stone and are not considered defects.
With appropriate care and maintenance, your handcrafted Yabatu bath or basin will provide lasting beauty for many years.
Daily Care
- Wipe the bath or basin dry after each use using a soft microfiber cloth.
- Clean regularly using a pH-neutral stone cleaner.
- Rinse thoroughly after cleaning.
- Promptly remove soap residue, cosmetics and mineral deposits.
Avoid
Do not use:
- Vinegar
- Bleach
- Citrus-based cleaners
- Acidic or alkaline cleaners
- Abrasive powders
- Steel wool
- Scouring pads
These products may damage the natural stone and its protective finish.
Protective Finish
1. Honed Finish - Impregnating Sealer
An impregnating sealer penetrates deep into the stone to reduce water absorption and help protect against staining.
- Preserves the natural appearance and texture of the stone
- Does not create a surface film
- Recommended for all honed finishes
2. Glossy Finish - Protective Surface Coating
Certain glossy products may receive an additional protective surface coating to enhance gloss and improve resistance to staining and etching.
This coating alters the surface finish compared with a natural honed stone and should only be maintained using non-abrasive cleaning products.
Surface Enhancement
Stone Polish Wax
Stone Polish Wax enhances the richness of the stone's colour while providing an additional layer of water resistance.
It should always be applied after the stone has been properly sealed and is not a substitute for an impregnating sealer.
Periodic Maintenance
To maintain optimum protection, we recommend the following:
- Reapply an impregnating sealer every 12 months, or as required depending on usage.
- After sealing, apply Stone Polish Wax to enhance the stone's appearance and provide additional water resistance.
- Commercial or high-use installations may require more frequent maintenance.
Mold & Surface Contamination
If mold or mildew develops, first clean the affected area using a stone-safe mold remover specifically designed for natural stone.
For persistent surface staining that cannot be removed through normal cleaning, very light wet sanding with approximately 2000-grit sandpaper may be undertaken by an experienced stone professional, followed by reapplication of an impregnating sealer and Stone Polish Wax.
Do not use household abrasive pads or aggressive sanding methods.
